The banks of Lake Mary Nell provided the perfect setting Friday, April 21 for Earthfest, an event sponsored by several campus groups to raise awareness about Earth Day and environmental issues.
Crafts, a homemade soap sale and free food were just some of the attractions of Earthfest, sponsored by the Sierra Club with support from other campus organizations, including College Democrats, Elon Outdoors and the Elon Environmental Council.
Educational tables provided information from several environmental groups, including NC GreenPower, which promotes the use renewable energy sources to lower dependency on fossil fuels. The Sierra Club and Elon Students for Peace and Justice handed out flyers promoting recycling. There was plenty of free food, including hot dogs and ice cream. Live music was provided by three local bands: Spiff, Jonas Sees in Color, and The Rising.
April 22 is the 36th celebration of Earth Day, a worldwide event to promote protection of the Earth and its environment.
