Angela Carlberg, a junior political science major, has been admitted to the Ralph Bunch Summer Institute, which acclimates minority students to the world of graduate study. Carlberg, a native of Baltic, S.D., is one of 20 students selected competitively to take two courses at Duke University which will emphasize statistical and analytical skills and leading issues in the discipline of political science.
Funded by a National Science Foundation grant and named after the 1950 Nobel Peace Prize winner for his work in the United Nations, the program seeks to expand interest in teaching political science at the university level. At the end of the institute, representatives from a number of leading Ph.D granting universities will interview the students and provide information about their doctoral programs. Participants will also have the opportunity to present their research at the American Political Science Association Annual Meeting at the end of the summer in Philadelphia.
