More than 50 members of the Elon community read names of Holocaust victims throughout the day. Approximately 6 million Jews were murdered in the Holocaust, including 1.5 million children.

Debbie Shapiro, Soref senior associate for campus advancement with Hillel national headquarters, also visited campus April 26 to discuss the Soref grant Elon received in 2004. The Soref program provides grants to colleges and universities with small Jewish populations to promote their activities on campus. Elon’s Hillel chapter has used the $5,000 grant to give Holocaust Remembrance Day a higher profile on campus, printing stickers, t-shirts and other promotional materials.
