David Crowe, professor of history, recently presented a paper, “You Are Not Alone: A Comparative History of the Roma of Eastern Europe and African Americans in the United States,” at a conference on “Roma Diplomacy: Virtual Diplomacy for a Virtual Nation.”
The conference, which was held at the Institut Universitaire de Hautes Etudes Internationales in Geneva, Switzerland, was sponsored by the Institute and the DiploFoundation. Over the past year, Crowe has served on the Advisory Group of the Roma Diplomacy Project which was set up to train young Roma activists in Central and Eastern Europe as public diplomats with the skills needed to represent thier communities. In addition to traditional lobbying activities and human rights advocacy, these young Roma diplomats will be called upon to function on the international diplomatic scene. The conference in Geneva was the culminating meeting of this year long project.
