Tom Nelson, assistant professor of communications, presented a short paper at the Popular Culture Association’s national conference in Atlanta April 12. The paper, titled, “Poetry as Memory” focused on the poetry of the First World War as a teaching tool. Nelson teaches a winter term study abroad class named “The Culture of the Great War” and uses poetry from the war years to teach the history of that conflict.
Nelson presented on a panel that included scholars from Tufts University and the University of Freiberg in Germany.
