Fox receives award for newspaper columns

Mark Fox, adjunct instructor in the School of Communications, has received an award from the Amy Foundation for the second consecutive year for his weekly columns that appear in the Burlington Times-News.

Fox serves as pastor of Antioch Community Church in Elon and has written a weekly column for the newspaper since 2004. Fox uses personal stories to illustrate Biblical principles in the columns, which generally run on Saturdays.

The Amy Foundation presents awards annually, recognizing works by Christian writers that appear in secular publications such as newspapers. Fox was chosen as one of 10 recipients of a $1,000 award from a field of almost 700 submissions.

Fox’s winning entry was a column about neurosurgeon Benjamin Carson’s visit to Elon several years ago. The column described Carson’s early struggles in school and his mother’s efforts to make him a better student.
