Two teachers in the Alamance-Burlington Public School system have been awarded a Times-News Elon Master’s of Education Fellowship to attend the university’s three-year summer M. Ed. program.
Aeron Storholt, a history teacher at Cummings High School in Burlington, and Patrick Vernon, a science and social studies teacher at Western Middle School in Elon, will enter the program this summer. This is the second year of the fellowship program, which provides full tuition. Storholt and Vernon were chosen through an interview process and for academic performance and leadership in teaching.
Storholt, a 2003 Elon graduate, was a N.C. Teaching Fellow as an undergraduate. She serves on a committee on honors standards for social studies and will pursue a master’s degree in gifted education.
Vernon, a 1994 Elon alum, has taught at Western Middle School since 1994. He will pursue a degree in elementary education. He is a past recipient of the Times-News Newspapers in Education program’s Teacher of the Year Award and serves as board president of the N.C. Geographic Alliance.
