‘Ideologies of Land and Place: Gikuyu and Settler Colonist Women in Kenya’ by Heidi G. Frontani, Associate Professor of Geography and R. Rebecca Hewitt, Elon Honors Program student, was published in the peer-reviewed journal Geographical Bulletin volume 47, issue 1, pages 14-35. The article, based upon a textual analysis of memoirs of twentieth century female authors from Kenya’s Central Province, explores human-environment interactions and women’s understandings of place. Research was conducted during Elon’s Summer Undergraduate Research Experiences (SURE) program in 2005. Frontani and Hewitt co-presented a paper on which the article is based at the annual meeting of the Association of American Geographers in Chicago in November.
