Some apartments in The Oaks, the new residence complex on Williamson Avenue, will not be ready for the beginning of fall semester. Elon has made alternate housing arrangements for the affected students until The Oaks are completed. Details…
Collegiate Development, which is building the complex that replaces the former Jordan Center, says crews are working extended hours 7 days a week, but will be unable to complete construction of all the buildings in time for the start of the fall semester.
The Oaks buildings “C” and “D” will not be ready for occupancy for the opening of the fall semester. Building C is expected to completed by the second week of September, and building D should be ready by the end of September.
There is also a potential that building “B” will also not be completed before students return to campus to begin classes on August 29. Building “A” is expected to be completed so students can move in on Sunday, August 27.
Elon has developed a plan that will provide alternative housing in furnished apartments close to campus (Partners Place, College Trace, and Oak Hill Apartments), and in the newly renovated Best Western Hotel near the Burlington Square mall for affected students. Elon will also provide regular shuttle bus service between the alternate housing locations and campus, and will not charge students rent until they move into The Oaks. The university will assist students with moving when the new housing is completed. Residents of The Oaks are encouraged to continue checking The Oaks Web site for regular updates on the progress of construction during coming weeks.
