Walt Pavlo, a former MCI executive who served 41 months in federal prison for a scheme that defrauded customers in 1996, will tell his story during two presentations on the Elon University campus. The sessions will take place at 4:45 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 6 and 10:45 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 7 in the LaRose Digital Theatre, located in the Ernest A. Koury Sr. Business Center.
As a senior manager at MCI, Pavlo was responsible for the billing and collection of almost $1 billion in monthly revenue for one of the company’s divisions. In March 1996, Pavlo and two others devised a scheme to defraud seven MCI customers out of $6 million. Pavlo cooperated with the federal government and in 2001 pleaded guilty to wire fraud and money laundering.
During his presentation, Pavlo will describe the events and corporate culture that led to his crimes, and how he has taken personal responsibility for his actions. Since his release from prison, Pavlo has founded Etika, LLC to share his story and his hope for ethical behavior in business.
