Art display includes 20,000 bottle caps; opening reception, Oct. 2

Artist Bryant Holsenbeck will lead Elon students in the installation of 20,000 recycled bottle caps to create “River,” an unusual and visually appealing display that will be featured at an opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 2 at the Elon West Gallery, located at 406 W. Haggard Avenue in Elon. The reception is free and open to the public.

“River” uses bottle caps of various colors to create a brilliantly colorful space that is evocative of rivers and shorelines. Holsenbeck, of Durham, N.C., uses a variety of everyday items in her work, including pencils, credit cards, broken records and chopsticks. She is a recipient of the N.C. Arts Council Fellowship and the Kathryn H. Wallace Grant for Artists in Community Service.

“River” will be on display through Oct. 29.
