The Department of Performing Arts will present “Blues For An Alabama Sky” by Pearl Cleage, Oct. 4-10 in the Black Box Theatre in the Center for the Arts on the Elon University campus. Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 4-Saturday, Oct. 7, with 2 p.m. matinee performances on Saturday, Oct. 7 and Sunday, Oct. 8. Performances on Monday, Oct. 9 and Tuesday, Oct. 10 are scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
This historic production is set in 1930 and contains dialogue rich in African American culture. The lives of struggling musicians, artists and social activists unfold with great fun and tense drama during the era of the Harlem Renaissance and the Great Depression.
Tickets for each performance are $12 or free for those with valid Elon identification. Reservations are highly recommended and will be taken beginning Sept. 27 by calling the 24-hour Black Box reservation line at (336) 278-5650.
