The African/African-American Studies program at Elon (AAASE) is undergoing several changes, beginning with a new marketing and advertising campaign, a new coordinator and advisory committee, and programming and curricular changes.
After serving as interim coordinator for the program from 2005 to 2006, Dr. Brian Digre, professor of history, will return to focus primarily on the International Studies and Asian Studies programs, both of which he coordinates. Prudence Layne, assistant professor of English, takes over this fall as the new AAASE coordinator.
In addition to a new email address for the program (aaase@elon.edu), and a Blackboard site for our minors, check out the program’s new website located at www.elon.edu/aaase. Not only does the site announce readings, special programs, upcoming conferences, course offerings, jobs, and scholarships, it will also house a comprehensive research database for scholars of Black Studies.
This Fall, AAAS published the inaugural issue of The Black Oaks Newsletter, which will keep the Elon community informed of new developments, and profiles the faculty, students, and staff in the program.
