North Carolina license plates with the Elon Phoenix logo are now available, and the first plates have already been placed on university vehicles.
The N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles required a minimum of 300 applications for production of the plates to begin. License plates have been mailed to the first applicants, and some university vehicles have already been outfitted with the new tags.
John Truitt ’53 worked closely with Lisa Ratliff Roper ’93, assistant director of alumni relations, on the project. Truitt made several trips to Raleigh to meet with DMV officials.
The Elon plates are available at any DMV license tag office in North Carolina, and will soon be available through the DMV’s Web site. The plates cost $25 annually; that charge is in addition to the regular license plate renewal fee. Personalized Elon license plates cost $55 annually, not including the renewal fee. Elon receives $15 of each yearly fee from the state.
