Art history professor to discuss 1990s Shanghai art, Oct. 23

University of California at San Diego Art History professor Norman Bryson will present a lecture based on his current research, titled “Limited Freedoms: Art in Shanghai in the 1990s” at 6 p.m., Monday, Oct. 23 in Yeager Recital Hall, located in the Center for the Arts on the Elon University campus. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Bryson previously taught at the Slade School in London and Harvard University. Bryson has written, edited and co-edited more than a dozen books on art history, art criticism and visual culture. His attentions have focused on such diverse topics as 19th-century French painting, 20th-century photography, Japanese art from the 19th century to the present, queer theory, psychoanalysis, and semiotics.
