Jay Anhorn, director of Greek Life at Elon, has been elected president of the Association of Fraternity Advisors. He will serve as president-elect in 2007 and serve a one-year term as president in 2008.
Anhorn came to Elon in August, and most recently served as assistant dean of students at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill since 2001. Anhorn has also worked at Coastal Carolina University, Conway, S.C., in student activities and at Lehigh University, Bethlehem, Pa., in residence life and Greek affairs. Anhorn earned a master of education degree in student personnel services from the University of South Carolina and a bachelor’s degree from Lehigh University.
The Association of Fraternity Advisors supports the professional development of more than 1,500 members, fostering partnerships across higher education and offering innovative resources and services to fraternity and sorority advisers. The Association is dedicated to meeting the needs of its membership, which includes staff members from international fraternity and sorority headquarters, student affairs professionals, alumni(ae) volunteers and graduate students.
In his role as President of the Association, Anhorn will represent those dedicated to the fraternity and sorority movement at student affairs professional association meetings and conferences, and will participate in major discussions and conversations about the future of fraternity and sorority life.
“I am honored that the membership has faith in me to serve in this capacity,” Anhorn said. “My passion for the work that fraternity and sorority life professionals do has motivated me to pursue this volunteer role. I am grateful that Elon University has supported me in this endeavor.”
The Association of Fraternity Advisors (AFA), founded in 1976, has provided an avenue for individuals associated with the fraternity/sorority movement to pursue professional growth and development.
