An article in the October 2006 issue of Wired magazine includes the work of Anthony Crider, associate professor of physics, in its list of the top eight research and development projects within the virtual world of Second Life. As part of his Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning (CATL) Scholar project, Crider has collaborated with professional and amateur space enthusiasts to create the International Spaceflight Museum. The article describes the museum as “bristling with scale replicas of rockets from the dawn of the Space Age to the present day. There are also regular lectures and demonstrations, and a bitchin’ planetarium.” Students in Crider’s introductory astronomy classes will design public outreach projects for this facility later this semester.
