Byerly will also work with student life staff to help plan Family Weekend and other parent events.
“We are thrilled that Maggie has joined Elon,” said Nan Perkins, vice president for institutional advancement. “She has outstanding experience in working with volunteers and is committed to serving Elon parents, who are vital members of our community and play a key role in advancing the university.”
Before coming to Elon, Byerly served from 2005 to 2006 as director of development at Wilmington (N.C.) Health Access for Teens, Inc. She was responsible for cultivation and solicitation of donors, volunteer management and event planning. Byerly also worked as associate director of development and director of annual giving at Durham Academy in Durham, N.C., from 2002 to 2005. Parent participation in the annual fund at Durham Academy increased to a record 83 percent during her tenure.
Byerly earned bachelor’s degrees in music and art history from Hollins College, Roanoke, Va., and has pursued graduate studies in music at the University of Missouri at Kansas City and La Schola Cantorum in Paris.
