Resident Student Association earns awards, recognition

The Resident Student Association (RSA) recently garnered several forms of state, regional, and national recognition. RSA took a delegation of twelve students to the South Atlantic Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls (SAACURH) Conference Oct. 27-29, hosted by the University of Virginia–College at Wise in Kingsport, Tenn. Delegates presented three different programming sessions to other students in the region and were able to share their ideas with other students while taking notes on ideas to bring back to Elon.

RSA also submitted its first ever regional bid in the Program of the Year category for Phoenix Phind. Members of RSA presented the bid to a boardroom full of their peers representing other schools from the Southeast. RSA received the SAACURH Spirit of Giving Award from the SAACURH Conference for donating materials and supplies for two conference philanthropy projects.

RSA was awarded the Dan Wooten Award on Wednesday, Nov. 1. This award is given to the RSA of the year by the North Carolina Housing Officers (NCHO). Elon’s RSA was picked to receive this award over all of the other RSA organizations in the state of North Carolina.

RSA and Residence Life also received their first National Of The Month (OTM) recognition this month from the National Association of College and University Residence Halls. The “Thirsty Thursday with Grey’s Anatomy” program that the Danieley Center Residence Life Staff planned in September was just recognized as the best educational program regionally by SAACURH and nationally by NACURH.

OTMs are written by students and faculty at Elon as a way of recognizing great students, programs, and organizations on campus. These nominations are submitted to the Elon Recognition Committee. The Committee selects one campus winner in each category which is then sent to the state and regional committees and those winners are sent on the national committee. Elon has never had a national OTM win before.
