Katie Franck of Elon University will receive the inaugural North Carolina Campus Compact (NCCC) Community Impact Student Award Saturday, Nov. 11, at North Carolina State University during the annual NCCC Student Conference. This award will be presented each year to students who have made significant, innovative contributions to campus-based efforts to address community needs. Franck will be one of 21 college students from across North Carolina to be recognized for their outstanding achievements.
N.C. Sen. Janet Cowell and Rep. Linda Coleman will present the award to Franck during an awards ceremony luncheon for more than 240 college students representing 26 schools in three states.
Franck is a senior majoring in sociology at Elon. Growing up in developing nations around the world, her passion for service and working with underprivileged and disadvantaged people has been an integral part of her life. Franck’s travels have highlighted the importance of understanding how intimately connected our global community is. In October, Franck was the lone student speaker at the National Campus Compact’s 20th Anniversary celebration in Chicago before an audience of 600.
North Carolina Campus Compact (NCCC) is a growing statewide coalition of twenty-six college and university presidents and chancellors in North Carolina. The mission of NCCC is to encourage and support campus engagement in the community.
