Jeff Kinsler, who joins the Elon University School of Law faculty in second semester, has been selected by Virginia Lawyers Weekly as one of this year’s “Leaders in the Law.”
The program, which is in its first year, recognizes Virginia attorneys and judges who have made significant contributions to their profession during the past year. Kinsler and other recipients were nominated based on a broad range of criteria, including their leadership in improving the justice system and their contributions to the legal community and the judiciary.
Kinsler is currently dean of Appalachian School of Law, which he led to full ABA approval. The winner of numerous teaching awards, he has taught at Valparaiso University School of Law, the University of Denver College of Law, the University of Tennessee College of Law and Marquette University Law School in the United States.
Kinsler has served as a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Queensland and has taught at the University of Sydney and Griffith University, all in Australia. Kinsler was a partner with Katten, Muchin & Zavis in Chicago, where he also practiced with Mayer, Brown & Platt. A member of the Virginia, Tennessee, Illinois and Wisconsin bars, he has co-authored eight books and has published numerous law review journal articles.
He obtained his undergraduate degree with honors from Ball State University, graduated first in his class at Valparaiso University School of Law and obtained a master of laws degree from Yale Law School.
Virginia Lawyers Weekly is the state’s primary legal magazine. A future issue will highlight Kinsler and the other award winners.
