The wreath laid at the Fonville Fountain flagpoles Nov. 11, sent by the parent of an Elon student, commemorates Veterans' Day. The wreath was sent by James Holmes, a 30-year Navy veteran and the father of Elon senior Sarah Holmes, of Atlanta.
This is the third year Holmes has sent a wreath to Elon for display on Veterans’ Day. Mr. Holmes also had a wreath delivered to his daughter’s high school, Woodward Academy, each Veterans’ Day. The school was formerly known as Georgia Military Academy and its campus has several statues honoring graduates who served in the two World Wars, Korea and Vietnam.
