Students enrolled in a Winter Term General Studies course stopped by a
local middle school to share science exhibits Jan. 5, and their visit
will be covered on WGHP-TV tonight during the 5:30 p.m. newscast.
The Elon students are enrolled in GST 346-Science Museums and Informal
Education, taught by Crista Arangala, associate professor of
mathematics. During their visit to Graham Middle School, the Elon
students demonstrated several hands-on science exhibits for their
middle school counterparts.
The course examines the math and science behind such exhibits and how
they foster scientific inquiry among young students. The lack of
hands-on science exhibits in many parts of the world is also discussed.
Students in the course will spend a substantial amount of time
developing science exhibits for a local traveling science center and a
science center in Sri Lanka.
