“Christmas Cheer: From Alamance County Musicians,” a CD produced and recorded at Elon University through Project Pericles, raised $19,555 in cash for Christmas Cheer of Alamance County. Elon also donated more than 700 unsold copies of the CD to Christmas Cheer for the organization to sell. The CD features the music of local artists who donated their time and talent for the project.
“Christmas Cheer is both honored and in awe of the amazing success of the sales generated by the CD,” said Dawn Sternal, director of Christmas Cheer of Alamance County. “The proceeds from this fundraiser helped us provide food, clothing and gifts for more 2,000 children and 190 elderly citizens in Alamance County. This wonderful project was vital for our organization to keep hope alive in the heart of a child.”
Elon Senior Audio Producer Bryan Baker took a Project Pericles service sabbatical to produce the CD. The service sabbatical program allows Elon staff members to take up to 4 weeks off from their regular job to perform a community service project.
“It was a pleasure to work with so many fine musicians from our university and community on such a fun project,” Baker said. “Many merchants, employers and community members came together in the true spirit of Christmas to make this recording a successful endeavor. I feel privileged to work at a place that sponsors a program such as the service sabbatical.”
