Bill Burpitt, Associate Professor of Business Administration, has had his article, “Surviving Industry Decline,” accepted for publication by the Journal of Business and Entrepreneurship. Targeting businesses that supply the furniture industry, the study explores how small firms confront industry decline and examines their primary strategic responses. It found that firms that employed diversification strategies were more likely to survive and even prosper than were those that focused on retrenchment and cost reductions. These firms also reported greater changes in manufacturing and management systems and in knowledge and skills employed in their operations.
