Super Bowl Ad Challenge “a great experience,” Elon team says

Though their ad wasn't the winner in the Chevy Super Bowl Ad Challenge, Elon students Tyler Lesch and Kiley Moorefield learned a lot about the advertising business and made key contacts as finalists in the competition. Details...

Lesch and Moorefield, both corporate communications majors in the School of Communications, were one of five teams of finalists in the competition, which fielded entries from more than 820 teams of college students nationwide. The winning commercial, which aired during the Super Bowl Sunday night, was scripted by a student from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

“It’s been a great experience,” Moorefield said Friday, hours before the winner was announced on a CBS special about Super Bowl commercials. “We made some good contacts in this business, and it has helped me decide that advertising is what I want to do after graduation.”

Moorefield and Lesch gathered with friends Friday evening to find out which finalist team won. In October, they traveled with faculty sponsor Michele Lashley to Detroit to work with Chevy’s ad agency to fine tune their proposal and make their pitch to Chevy executives at General Motors headquarters.

Moorefield and Lesch were featured in reality “webisodes” at CBS.com in the days leading up to the Super Bowl, giving viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the ad challenge competition.
