Former English professor Helen Euliss, whose teaching career at Elon and Alamance-Burlington public schools spanned 50 years, died Thursday, Feb. 22. She was 88.
Euliss received the Daniels-Danieley Award for Excellence in Teaching, Elon’s highest teaching award, in 1974-75. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, served on the Alamance County School Board and the Alamance Community College Board of Trustees and was active in the North Carolina Teaching Fellows program. She was a graduate of Appalachian State University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Funeral services are scheduled for 3 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 25 at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, Liberty, N.C. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 24 at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory in Burlington. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Elon University or Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church.
