LabCorp chairman Mac Mahon named Executive-in-Residence at Elon’s Love School of Business

Tom Mac Mahon, chairman and former chief executive officer of Laboratory Corportation of America (LabCorp), has been named the first Executive-in-Residence at Elon’s Martha and Spencer Love School of Business. Details...

He will visit campus regularly to discuss specific business issues with students and faculty and participate in undergraduate, MBA and Executive Education programs.

“We are proud and honored to have Tom Mac Mahon as our first Executive-in-Residence,” said John Burbridge, dean of the Love School of Business. “The Love School is committed to integrating the perspectives and experiences of distinguished executives into its academic programs. As Executive-in-Residence, Tom will share insights from his remarkable career in the healthcare industry with students and faculty.”
   
Mac Mahon has served as LabCorp chairman since 1996 and served as chief executive officer from 1997 to 2006. LabCorp is one of the world’s largest clinical laboratories, with revenues of approximately $3.6 billion and more than 25,000 employees. LabCorp has been recognized by Forbes Magazine as one of the best performing companies in the U.S., and a 2004 Forbes article featured Mac Mahon’s efforts to build LabCorp into the nation’s second-largest clinical laboratory.
   
Mac Mahon played a pioneering role in commercializing the use of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technology, which has enabled the rapid growth of molecular diagnostic testing for infectious diseases, genetics and oncology.
   
Before joining LabCorp, Mac Mahon held various executive positions with Hoffmann-La Roche, serving as senior vice president from 1993 to 1997 and president of Roche Diagnostics Group from 1988 to 1996. Mac Mahon earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing from St. Peter’s College and an MBA in marketing from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
