Connie Book, associate professor in the School of Communications, was presented an Ovation Award by the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors for her research and efforts in 2006 to preserve the public interest in the cable television franchising process. Ovation awards recognize substantial contributions in the field of telecommunications policy on behalf of local governments.
Book conducted a study of local officials’ attitudes toward cable competition and oversight. The results were distributed on Capitol Hill during regulatory debate in an effort to highlight the important local negotiations that can happen on behalf of citizens during cable franchising negotiations.
