Elon continues to make progress in the standings for RecycleMania 2007, a national contest designed to raise awareness about recycling at colleges and universities. In this week's standings Elon continues to hold on to the top spot in the state in one contest category. Details...
The standings through Week 6 of RecycleMania have been posted, and Elon continues to move forward. Elon is in 77th place out of 174 schools in the Per Capita division. Elon is in 3rd place out of 5 North Carolina schools entered in the overall competition.
Elon is still in 1st place in the state in the targeted materials-aluminum, plastic and glass category, and 27th overall out of 106 schools. In the targeted materials-cardboard category, Elon is in 41st place out of 100 schools, up from 43rd last week.
In the gross weight category, Elon ranks 90th out of 178 listings, with 52,048 pounds of total weight recycled to date.
“Each week, we continue to increase our recyclable volume,” said Dave Worden, manager of environmental services. “Targeted material weights vary, but one or two categories pull through each week to offset categories that aren’t as strong. Although we did not participate in a targeted materials contest for paper, the continued recycling efforts throughout campus for paper have aided the overall weight volume for the per capita contest, and this is outstanding.”
Continue to look for the containers with green lids throughout campus for cans and bottles. Paper should go in containers with blue lids.
