As a result of the complexity of the department, interns gain extensive hands-on experience in internal relations, community relations, media relations and broadcast production.
Based on ability, interns have the opportunity to perform a variety of job functions, including writing and distributing press releases, pitching stories to the media, writing articles for employee publications, assisting on video shoots, Web site design, copy writing and graphic design.
Interns get a rare opportunity to combine classroom knowledge with a variety of departments, job functions, skill sets and management styles throughout their experience with the Guilford County Schools District Relations Department.
In order to be considered for the GCS internship program, the following qualifications must be met and verified:
o All interns must be at least a college junior, senior or recent college graduate
o Major must be in related field – Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Broadcast Journalism, Marketing, Business or English
o Have a B average
o If a college student, internship must be for credit
