The School of Communications at Elon is now accepting student applications for “account executives” to participate in a new student-run communications agency that will be launched in the fall of 2007. The student agency will develop and execute public relations, advertising and integrated communications programs for real clients in the North Carolina region, including both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. Additional details on the agency will be announced later this semester.
Students from all majors and years are welcome to apply for account executive positions. The agency will interview and accept 15-20 students for its inaugural semester. Account executives will serve the agency for one semester and will be eligible to receive one credit hour from the School of Communications per semester, up to four credit hours maximum.
The term “account executive” is a professional communications term used to describe executives who work on a specific client account. The agency will be structured into client teams, with account executives assigned to each team. Team leaders, as well as the director and assistant director of the agency, will assist teams in defining client goals and executing communications programs to meet those goals.
Professor Lee Bush, faculty director for the agency, said the firm will be looking for students with excellent writing skills, as well as enthusiasm, resourcefulness, creativity and critical thinking skills. In addition to written communications abilities, the agency is also interested in applicants with visual technology expertise, including video and film production and graphic design.
Students may apply for the account executive position by filling out an application and returning it by April 18 to Professor Lee Bush, Campus Box 2850. Applications can be found at the following link: http://www.elon.edu/e-web/academics/communications/connections/default.xhtml. Interviews for account executives will be conducted in late April by the director and assistant director of the student agency.
