Burbridge, at left in the photo, is stepping down as dean at the end of the academic year. After a sabbatical, he will return to the school in a teaching position.
“Since 1996, John has really retooled our business school,” said Gerry Francis, provost and vice president for academic affairs. Francis noted that Burbridge, whose background is in engineering, reorganized the school’s curriculum, brought the finance and accounting programs together, and reinvented the MBA program. “In all of his engineering, he has produced a product,” Francis said. “John did all of this in a collaborative, collegial style. John, you’ve served the business school well, Elon University well, and your profession well.”
Tom Tiemann, professor of economics, spoke on behalf of the Love School faculty. He thanked Burbridge for his adept management style that nurtured the faculty and encouraged excellence.
“I want to thank everyone for coming and expressing your good thoughts,” Burbridge said. “Most of you know I’m a people person, that I really enjoying engaging people in conversation. It’s been a wonderful 11 years because I got to meet all of you folks.”
