The Multicultural Gala was hosted by the Multicultural Student Council and Judy Ruiz, student program coordinator. It featured artifacts, pottery, dance lessons, food and more from around the world, including Finland, Brazil, Central America, China, India and Nigeria. Offices in Moseley Center each hosted displays for a particular country or region. The gala promotes diversity on campus by providing an opportunity for Elon students, faculty and staff to learn about different cultures.
The Elon Performance Fair showcased the talents of student musicians, including 3 Day Weekend, an acoustic rock group featuring Collin Hartley, Brendan Robinson and Vince Benedetti. The rock group Obsidia, comprised of Matt Davis, Andre DiMuzio, Spiff Navarro and Andrew Pressley, also took the stage on Young Commons.
Elon’s CELEBRATE!, a weeklong event highlighting student achievement in academics and the arts, concludes this weekend. Friday evening, the popular campus group élan will present a festival-style concert featuring music from Earth, Wind and Fire, Steely Dan and Santana. Performances will take place at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Young Commons. At 7:30 p.m., the Festival of Student-Directed Works will present “Julius Caesar” in the Black Box Theatre, and the National Pan-Hellenic Council will host its Spring Step Show at 8:30 p.m. in Alumni Gym.
Saturday’s schedule includes a matinee performance of “Julius Casesar” at 2 p.m., the stage production of “Bent” by Martin Sherman at 7:30 p.m., in the Black Box Theatre, and a performance by the all-male a capella group Rip Chord at 8 p.m. in Whitley Auditorium.
