Elon University Landscaping Department is seeking candidates for one internship position available for the summer of 2007. The intern position provides a student hands-on experience in a public setting working with professionals in the field. Elon University is committed to providing a productive and educational internship experience. Candidates Should be pursuing either a degree in environmental studies, biology, horticulture, related field. Compensation can include on-campus housing if necessary.
This internship will provide an individual, interested in pursuing a career in horticulture, with a hands-on horticulture experience in the maintenance of a public garden. This is an excellent introduction to career opportunities in horticulture, landscaping and public or estate gardens. An intern will acquire a basic foundation in gardening techniques and horticulture knowledge and become familiar with various tools and equipment. This individual will assist Gardeners with their daily tasks including pruning, planting, fertilizing, watering and weed control.
In addition, the horticulture intern will be rotated every few weeks to gain additional experience in the maintenance of a varied collection of annual and perennial plants, arboriculture and summer construction projects. This individual will also be exposed to the basic elements of the public garden including identification and inventory of plant materials, and the organization and installation of plant signage.
