Jerry Tolley, director of annual giving and the Elon Society, recently
received the Old North State Award from N.C. Gov. Mike Easley. The
award is given to individuals who have a proven record of exemplary
service and commitment to the state and respective communities.
Tolley was nominated for the award by Be Active North Carolina, a
service group that promotes health and fitness. Tolley is a founding
board member of the group, which has raised more than $14 million to
combat obesity and promote physical activity. Be Active North Carolina
was recently named the top statewide organization in the country for
health and physical activity by The National Association for Health and
Fitness (NAHF).
In addition to his work with Be Active North Carolina, Tolley is a founding director and current president of The Alamance Foundation. He is chair of the Alamance County Elected Officials Association and serves on the executive board of the Thomas E. Powell Jr. Biology Foundation.
This is
the third award Tolley has received from the governor’s office. He
previously received the Order of the Long Leaf Pine and the Laurel
Wreath Award.
