The Kernodle Center for Service Learning was recently honored by the American Association of University Administrators with the John Blackburn Award. The Blackburn Award is for an exemplary office or administrative unit in higher education. Jerome Neuner, associate vice president for academic affairs at Canisius College, presented the award to Mary Morrison, director of the Kernodle Center for Service Learning at Elon University, during their annual meeting in Charleston, SC.
“The committee was impressed by the great number and diverse locations of service work, and by the excellent record-keeping and research,” Neuner said. “The Center is expert at leading students and faculty through all phases of the experience: direct service, reflection, classroom application, and advocacy. The Kernodle Center for Service Learning is clearly a model for what other institutions hope to achieve in their service learning offices.“
