First-year students at the Elon University School of Law will participate in “Elon Law Reaches Out,” a day of community service from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 11. More than 100 students will have the chance to meet new people and give back to the community by volunteering their time at 7 locations throughout the Triad.
“Civic engagement is an important part of the experience of being an Elon Law student,” says Mark Jetton, class representative to Elon’s Student Bar Association (SBA). “We hope this day will inspire these new students to make new connections in the Triad community and find their own opportunities to serve their fellow citizens. More importantly, we believe this event will instill a sense of civic responsibility in students that will be with them throughout their careers.”
The day is part of orientation activities for Elon’s newest law students, the second class to enroll at the school. Between 10 and 30 students are expected to volunteer at each of seven sites, which are listed below:
- Wyndham Golf Tournament, Forest Oaks Country Club—Greensboro
- Green Hill Center, located at the Greensboro Cultural Center—200 N. Davie St.
- Horsepower Therapeutic Learning Center—8001 Leabourne Rd., Colfax
- Red Dog Farm—1219 West N.C. Highway 150, Greensboro
- The Servant Center garden—1312 Lexington Ave., Greensboro
- Food Assistance, Inc., Lewis Storage—2751 Patterson St., West Dock, Greensboro
- Evergreen Senior Living—4007 West Wendover Ave., Greensboro
