Hiroko Takanashi, assistant professor of Japanese, presented a paper at the 10th International Pragmatics Conference, in Göteborg, Sweden, in July 2007. Her paper, “Framing self-directed humor by Japanese women,” was part of a panel that cross-linguistically (American English, New Zealand English, Argentine Spanish, Japanese) examines the linguistic practice of humorous self-disclosure with special attention of age and gender.
