President Leo M. Lambert and Provost Gerald L. Francis visited with new students at Elon University School of Law Friday, Aug. 10, welcoming them to the university community. Details...
Lambert and Francis were on hand as the Class of 2010 finished its second day of orientation activities at the law school campus in Greensboro. Lambert told students they have joined a supportive place that is focused on students.
“Elon is a student centered and learning centered community,” Lambert said. “That student centered thinking has guided decisions throughout Elon’s history.” Helping law students become effective leaders is a key component of an Elon Law education, and Lambert urged students to take advantage of the opportunity to learn from a variety of leaders during their time here. “You’re going to have perspectives on leadership from important and distinguished people that will hopefully inspire you in your studies.”
Francis asked the class to work hard and help establish Elon Law as an innovative, creative place to learn.
“I want you to know how pleased we are that you are here,” Francis said. “As the second class to enroll, you are still part of opening this law school. You are going to be setting the reputation of this institution.”
Earlier Friday, students learned about professional
conduct by lawyers as well as the importance of maintaining
healthy lifestyles as they progress in their careers. Students
heard presentations from BarCares and PALs, two State Bar
organizations concerned with lawyer and law student well
being. They also heard from Elon University’s
Student Health Service and the Greensboro YMCA.
Orientation activities continue Saturday, Aug. 11, as first-year students participate in “Elon Law Reaches Out,” a morning of community service scheduled for seven locations in the Piedmont Triad.
