A video produced by television services staff member Marion Aitcheson during a Project Pericles service sabbatical has been selected for the 2007 Charlotte Film Festival.
Aitcheson was born and raised in the city of Eisenach during the
height of Soviet controlled East Germany. Her early years were spent
with loving grandparents until a series of fateful events and family
indifference forced her into the care of the East German social system.
The experiences she gained from her years in the Children’s
Home significantly shaped her life, giving her a unique perspective on
the world along with skills and confidence to succeed. After a decade away, Aitcheson returned to the children’s home in
Eisenach, Germany where she spent her adolescent years. This
documentary explores her bittersweet homecoming, reunites her with old
friends and teachers, and brings her face to face with memories of the
disintegration of her own family.
