Trapani is the father of 2007 Elon University alumnus Caitlin Trapani, who was active in Project Pericles work. This gift will support work of the Periclean Scholars, the centerpiece of Project Pericles at Elon. Students chosen for this program take part in a series of courses (one per school year), culminating in a class project of global or local social change. Each cohort defines its own project. The Class of 2006 chose awareness of the spread of HIV/AIDS in Namibia, Africa, as their project. The Class of 2007 focused on malnutrition in Honduras. The class of 2008 is working to reduce the impact of poverty in Chiapas, Mexico.
The Redwoods Group Endowment Fund for the Sustainment of the Periclean Scholars Program will support activities of the Periclean Scholars Alumni Association. Income from the fund will enable Periclean Scholars who graduate from Elon to continue their service work as alumni.
