LaRose Digital Theatre, Koury Business Center, 7:30 p.m.
October 4, 2007 marks the 50-year anniversary of the launch of Sputnik, the world’s first satellite. The Fever of ’57 premiered in June 2007 at the Seattle International Film Festival. This documentary-style movie from veteran filmmaker David Hoffman tells the story of America’s growing fear and panic following the 1957 launch of Soviet satellite Sputnik. Few people alive today know the full story about the role Sputnik played in creating panic throughout the United States or how fear bordering on panic brought the U.S. and the USSR close to starting a global thermonuclear war.
Mr. Hoffman will be on hand to answer questions after the screening.
