The Baird Pulitzer Prize Lecture by George Will and aroundtable discussion on a graduate education incommunications headlined the Elon University School ofCommunications Advisory Board meeting Sept. 21. Leadingprofessional communicators from across the United Statesconvened for the biannual gathering.
Thirteen members of the board participated in the meetingand heard remarks from Dean Paul Parsons in a presentationtitled, “On Arriving: Signs We Have Arrived, and SignsWe Have Yet to Arrive,” which detailed theschool’s news of the year and plans for thefuture.
Associate Dean Connie Book discussed new staffing in theschool, gave an update on the progress of the student mediaorganizations moves and mentioned changes to the internshipprogram before taking the board on a tour of the new Pendulumfacility on Williamson Avenue.
Board members also visited with classes to discuss careertransitions. They peppered students with advice on how toevolve smoothly from a pupil to a communicationsprofessional.
The Freshman Fellows had lunch with board members, duringwhich the two groups participated in a spirited round of“Win Stuff: Are you smarter than an Elonstudent?”
Book discussed the Elon in Los Angeles, New York and Atlantainitiatives, and assistant professor Lee Bush introduced themembers to the student leaders of Live Oak Communications,the School of Communications student agency that is beginningits inaugural year.
