Faculty from the Department of Education presented two sessions on Thursday, September 20, at the North Carolina Teacher Education Forum (NC-ACTE) in Raleigh. NC-ACTE is the state division for the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education. The state organization was hosting its 25th anniversary this fall.
Terry Tomasek, Richard Mihans, Stephen Byrd, and Judith Howard presented a discussion entitled, “Tools for Transformative Learning.” This session developed Elon’s new focus on transformative learning and how it is envisioned for teacher education.
Mary Knight-McKenna, Mark Rumley, Stephen Byrd, and Judith Howard presented a session entitled, “Developing Coherence and Integration: Opening up the Boxes.” This session focused on the importance of faculty conversations to build program cohesion, the place of service learning within teacher education, and the role of field and clinical experiences to support the department’s mission for preparing teachers.
Both sessions were well received.
