Incoming freshmen participate in Discovery experience

Twenty freshmen have returned from a week-long outdoor adventure in Virginia, one of Elon's pre-orientation experiences. Details…

“Discovery” is an annual program that enables students to discover new friendships while building their teamwork and leadership skills. The program begins by familiarizing students with campus and then moves to the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, where new friendships begin and outdoor skills are developed. During Discovery, students hike the Appalachian Trail, spend two days serving the community of Luray, canoe the white-water of the Shenandoah River and tour local natural attractions.

The experience took place June 24-30, and was led by assistant chaplain Phil Smith and assistant admissions director Jessie McCullough, with coordination by Mallory Anderson, director of leadership. Upper class students Maria Wyka and Nick Dioguardi assisted in coordinating the experience.
