CATL announces new faculty associate director

The chair of the psychology department at Elon has been named the first faculty associate director of the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning.

Catherine “Katie” King, chair of the psychology department, has been named associate director of the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning starting in Fall 2008.
Associate professor Catherine “Katie” King has been named to the position, said Peter Felten, director of the center, in an e-mail to faculty and staff. King begins her four-year term as associate director in Fall 2008.

“Dr. King has a long record of innovative and effective teaching which Elon College recognized by naming her the recipient of its 2006 Excellence in Teaching Award,” Felten said in the e-mail. “Dr. King also has been an active scholar, publishing and presenting on topics including cognitive apprenticeship and student self-assessment of learning.”

King  has taught at Elon since 1993. She received her degrees  from the University of California at San Diego and Northwestern University.

David Copeland, Deborah Long, Janet Warman, Matt Valle and Megan Conklin served on the search committee that selected King for the role.
