President Leo M. Lambert, trustees and members of the Law School Advisory Board and Board of Visitors have been named to the Triad Business Journal's 2008 Most Influential List. The special section was part of the Nov. 30 edition of the Business Journal.
Lambert earned a spot on the list of 102 Triad leaders because “he has pushed in the last several years to build bridges between Alamance County and Guilford County, where the university opened its law school last year,” the paper said. “The law school expects to grow to 300 students by fall 2008. And Elon’s main campus also is growing with students and buildings.”
This is the fourth consecutive year Lambert has been named to the list.
Elon trustees Tom Chandler, Louis DeJoy, Allen Gant Jr., Jack Lindley Sr., Bobby Long and Jim Powell were also chosen for the list. Chandler serves as Chairman of Chandler Concrete Co., in Burlington and has served on various boards, including Alamance Regional Medical Center.
DeJoy is CEO of New Breed, Inc. He serves on the boards of Moses Cone Health System and raises money for diabetes, multiple sclerosis research, arts groups and the National Republican Party.
Gant is CEO of Glen Raven, Inc. and chairs the Elon University Board of Trustees. He has served on President George W. Bush’s Advisory Committee for Trade Policy & Negotiations. Gant has also served on numerous local boards, including the Alamance County United Way, and he serves as chair of the Institute of Textile Technology.
Lindley is CEO of Industrial Paper Products, Inc., and has been an active member of the Alamance County community for more than 40 years. He is a long-time member of several local boards has served as treasurer at his church for 44 consecutive years.
Long is chairman of the Greensboro Jaycees Charitable Foundation andsupports a variety of local causes. He helped secure the law school fordowntown Greensboro and played an important role in preservingGreensboro’s annual PGA golf tournament on the schedule.
Powell is co-founder and former CEO of Laboratory Corporation of America (LabCorp) in Burlington. He also serves on the board of the Alamance Foundation, an affiliate of the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro.

Board of Visitors member Nancy Dunn is chairwoman and CEO of Aladdin Travel & Marketing Planners. She serves on the board of the Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation and the N.C. Department of Transportation board.
Law School Advisory Board member Henry Frye became the first black member of the N.C. Supreme Court in 1993 and later served as chief justice. He played a key role in bringing the law school to Greensboro.
Law School founding donor Jim Melvin is president of the Joseph M. Bryan Foundation. He is a former mayor of Greensboro and is working to promote economic development opportunities between Greensboro and Alamance Counties.
Adjunct instructor of finance Dick Shirley is president of Dick Shirley Chevrolet Cadillac Mitsubishi. He is currently leading the effort to raise $750,000 annually in new athletic scholarships at Elon.
