Burst the Bubble: Winter Term 2008

Once again this winter term, students will “Burst the Bubble.”  Now in its second year, Burst the Bubble is a series of student led, non-credit bearing workshops open to all students.  Topics are varied and give students the opportunity to learn a new skill or hobby or possibly even discover a hidden talent. 

Burst the Bubble workshops are free to students and occur in the evening after classes have ended for the day. Some classes still have openings!  Look below for information on all workshops offered.  To register for an open class please email burstthebubble@elon.edu with the course number in the subject line.

BTB 001: CLOSED   
Tango Argentino
Ever seen the Tango danced in a movie and thought “I wish I could do that?”  You can!  Learn how to dance the Tango straight from the dance halls of Buenos Aires.  It’s sleek, sensual, and SIMPLE!  Learn all about the dance and the culture from which it came.  Taught by a student returning from a semester abroad in Argentina.

Viewing the Middle East Through Frank Herbert’s “Dune”

The novel, Dune, has many allegorical references to the historical and modern Middle East.  The purpose of this workshop is to explain these similarities in an effort to better understand the Middle East.

Clogging, From Hillbilly to Hip Hop and Everywhere in Between

Students will learn a brief history of clogging, as well as all the basic clogging steps that will culminate in a final informal performance for their peers!  No shoes or dance experience required so get ready to get down this winter term!

Around the World in Less Than a Month

Students will explore a variety of cultures through conversation, film, food, music and art in an effort to eliminate cultural stereotypes and develop cultural awareness.  (Presented in partnership with Intercultural Relations Club)

Fly-Tying and Lure-Making

The perfect dry fly for a clear mountain trout stream.  The spinner bait that calls the bass from the weeds.  Learn how to make your own fishing flies and lures.
