Tom Vecchione
Vecchione comes to Elon from Ohio Wesleyan University, Delaware, Ohio, where he has been director of career services for the past four years.

Vecchione has had 12 years of progressively responsible experience working in career and student services across all levels of higher education. At Ohio Wesleyan he supervises a career services operation assisting about 1,900 undergraduates entering the workforce or graduate school. Working with the alumni relations office, Vecchione was instrumental in helping launch a new online alumni-student networking system, resulting in greater utilization of the system by both alumni and students.

Prior to Ohio Wesleyan, Vecchione served in a variety of positions at The Ohio State University, main Columbus campus, including five years as director of career and placement services for the College of Education. At Ohio State he also gained experiences in both the law school and the university medical center.

His research has appeared in scholarly publications, most recently the Australian Journal of Guidance and Counseling in 2004. He has made more than 20 invited career-related presentations on job market preparation, resume development, effective job search techniques, working with undecided students, conducting an effective academic job search, and how employers can best recruit college students.

Vecchione earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Bowling Green State University, a master’s degree in educational psychology from the University of Northern Colorado and a doctorate in counselor education from Ohio University. In 1997 he received Ohio University’s Donald A. Green Memorial Award in recognition of outstanding achievement related to the promotion of career development issues.

Vecchione will join the Elon staff in the late spring.
